PSI’s partnership with Shearer’s Foods, a leading snack food manufacturer and co-pack supplier of Frito-Lay, is an excellent case study of the new scale to which our Green Machine Protocol is being applied.

PSI’s partnership with Shearer’s Foods, a leading snack food manufacturer and co-pack supplier of Frito-Lay, is an excellent case study of the new scale to which our

Green Machine Protocol is being applied.

PSI is a member of the design team that is creating and constructing a new Shearer’s Foods’ production facility in upstate Ohio.  The facility is the first LEED platinum snack food manufacturing facility in the world.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification confirms that a structure is a high-performance, sustainable building equipped with energy-efficient measures from lighting to improved wall and roof insulation.  Certification is granted by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The state of the art energy efficient facility that PSI is helping Shearer’s Foods create will utilize 30% less energy per pound of snack food produced than Shearer’s current manufacturing facilities.

This dramatic cut in energy use will be achieved through the energy efficient building design, including high levels of wall and roof insulation, energy efficient windows and a reflective white roof.  PSI is installing our ductless HVAC system that reduces energy use by 50%, compared to steam generated systems.  The energy model PSI created for the Shearer’s plant also will recover heat generated by the production equipment to heat the building and provides for pre-heating outside ventilation air.
