Additionally, the systems we design incorporate patented technology and processes that PSI has developed. Among the patents PSI holds are: 

 

√ Two for regulation of atmospheric conditions within a confined space;
√ One for a modular evaporative humidification device;
√ One for an inlet and damper system for airhouses;
√ One for a process for detection and evacuation of atmospheric pollutants from a confined work place, and 
√ One for a twin blower airhouse.

 

 

A major benefit of much of our patented technology is that it eliminates indoor air pollutants, thus providing an enhanced work environment that contributes to increased productivity.

            

Another component sometimes employed by PSI in the energy systems we design is our patented “Liquid Chimney”. Our chimneyless chimney is an efficient and safe substitute for steam. It eliminates the need for pressure vessels and can improve energy performance by 40 to 50% for heating and 70 to 80% for absorption chillers. The chimney captures the CO₂ in the exhaust of a natural gas boiler and mixes it with treated water to produce hot water that is recycled to save energy and calcium carbonate that is harmless to the environment. The technology can transfer gas heat to water at up to 98% efficiency.

Patented Technology

Bigfoot is the name of PSI’s patented twin blower airhouse, a ductless heating and ventilation system that is an alternative to traditional coal-fired, steam-generating heating and ventilation systems. Bigfoot replaces coal-burning furnaces and duct work with efficient rooftop gas-fired units that promote air circulation, recover waste heat and keep the workplace comfortable.  

 

Each Bigfoot unit consists of a large airhouse containing two 100-horsepower fans. Fresh outside air is heated by a direct-fired natural gas burner and mixed with return air to provide building air balance.  Supply air is maintained at a temperature between 10 and 32C (50 and 90F) at the discharge head. The tempered air forces the hot air down, keeping the temperature at floor level virtually constant.
